At North Bay Materials, we specialize in bulk landscape material delivery throughout Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and Solano counties. Please review the following policies before placing an order.

Order Minimums & Delivery Limits

Minimum Orders (varies by material and destination)

  • Gravel, Sand, Rock: 1 cubic yards

  • Soil Blends & Fill: 1 cubic yards

  • Mulch & Bark: 1 cubic yards

Maximum Loads

  • Heavy Materials (gravel, rock, DG, dirt): 5–7 yards (small dump), up to 25 tons (large truck)

  • Medium Materials (soil, compost, amendments): 8–10 yards (small dump), 20–30 yards (large truck)

  • Light Materials (mulch, bark, woodchips): 10–12 yards (small dump), 30–40 yards (large truck)

Overloading is prohibited for safety and legal reasons.

One Material Type Per Load
Each truckload is limited to a single bulk product. Separate deliveries must be scheduled for multiple materials.

Service Area

We deliver to: MARIN: San Rafael, Tiburon, Mill Valley Novato; SONOMA: Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Healdsburg; NAPA: Calistoga, Napa, Yountville, St Helena, Angwin; SOLANO: Vallejo, Benicia, Fairfield, and Vacaville.

Deliveries outside this area may be arranged via third-party trucking.

Delivery Terms

Scheduling & Hours

  • Deliveries are typically same- or next-day, depending on availability.

  • Delivery windows are in 3-hour blocks (e.g., 8–11 AM, 12–3 PM). Exact arrival times cannot be guaranteed.

  • Delivery Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. Closed weekends and major holidays.

Customer Presence & Access

  • A customer must be on-site unless prior drop instructions are provided.

  • Customers must ensure safe access by clearing vehicles, unlocking gates, and marking dump locations.

  • If unloading is unsafe or impossible, redelivery or restocking fees may apply.

Curbside & Driveway Delivery

  • Standard deliveries are curbside or driveway only.

  • Driving on lawns, soft ground, or unpaved areas is at customer’s risk. North Bay Materials is not liable for damage to driveways, pavers, irrigation, or landscaping.

Weather & Site Conditions

  • Deliveries may be rescheduled due to rain, extreme weather, or unsafe conditions.

  • Driveways must allow at least: 9 ft width, 10 ft height clearance, and adequate turning radius.

  • Drivers may refuse unsafe deliveries. Materials may be left at curbside at the driver’s discretion.

Cancellations, Returns & Refunds

  • Orders may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance at no charge.

  • Cancellations within 24 hours may incur up to a $100 fee.

  • Once loaded or dispatched, you may be charged the full delivery cost.

  • All bulk sales are final. Materials cannot be returned or exchanged once delivered.

  • If the wrong product is delivered, North Bay Materials will replace or refund at no cost.

  • Issues must be reported within 48 hours with photos and details.

Product Variations & Substitutions

  • Natural products vary in color, size, and texture depending on source, moisture, and season.

  • Photos and website calculators are for reference only. Customers are responsible for confirming suitability before ordering.

  • Samples are available upon request (some materials only)

  • If a product is temporarily unavailable, we may:

    • Offer a comparable substitute (with customer approval), or

    • Delay delivery until stock is replenished.

Pricing, Quotes & Taxes

  • Prices are subject to change based on supplier rates, trucking, and fuel surcharges.

  • Delivery fees depend on distance, truck type, and load weight.

  • Quotes are valid for 30 days. After that, prices may change.

  • Sales tax applies unless a valid resale certificate is provided.

  • We reserve the right to correct pricing errors before processing orders.

Liability

  • Customers requesting delivery beyond curbside assume all responsibility for property damage (driveways, landscaping, irrigation, underground utilities, etc.).

  • North Bay Materials is not liable for delays caused by weather, traffic, quarry closures, or third-party trucking.

  • Materials are sold “as is.” We do not guarantee performance for specific uses.

  • Our maximum liability is limited to the total amount paid for materials and delivery.

Customer Responsibilities

Before delivery, customers must:

  • Confirm correct material type, quantity, and unit of measure.

  • Prepare and clearly mark the drop location.

  • Provide accurate instructions and a reachable phone number.

  • Ensure compliance with local HOA, city, or jobsite regulations.

Once delivered, ownership and responsibility transfer to the customer.

Frequently Asked Shipping Questions

Q. How much do you charge for delivery?

Delivery is billed hourly with a 1-hour minimum:

  • $95/hour for a small dump truck

  • $150/hour for a big dump truck
    Discounts available for orders requiring multiple trips.

Q. Can you deliver more than one type of material at once?

No - only one type of material per load is allowed.

Q. How big is your dump truck?

We use different size trucks.

  • The smallest truck requires ~8' side-to-side and ~8' top-to-bottom clearance.

  • The big truck requires ~10' side-to-side and ~12' top-to-bottom clearance (not recommended for tight access areas)

Q. How many yards can you delivery in a load?

It depends on truck size but on average:

Small Dump

  • Sand, Gravel, Rock, Dirt 3-5 cubic yards.

  • Mulch or Wood chips 12-14 cubic yards.

  • Amended Topsoil 6-8 cubic yards.

Big Dump

  • Sand, Gravel, Rock, Dirt 15-17 cubic yards.

  • Mulch or Woodchips 30-40 cubic yards.

  • Amended Topsoil 25-30 cubic yards.

Q. How soon can you deliver?

Typically 1–2 business days, depending on material availability, access, and address.
Same-day may be possible if material and a truck are available.

Q. Can you deliver to my back-yard?

No - for safety and liability reasons, we do not deliver to backyards.

Q. I live up in the hills what's the smallest size truck do you have and how many cubic yards can it deliver?

Using our smallest truck for tight hillside access, typical capacities are:

  • Sand, gravel, rock, dirt: 3–4 yd³

  • Mulch or woodchips: 12–14 yd³

  • Amended topsoil: 5–7 yd³

Q. How much space do you need to dump the material?

  • A 5 yd³ pile needs roughly a two-car-garage footprint.

  • A 10 yd³ pile needs about 15' × 20' of clear space.

Q. Do you deliver outside of your service areas?

Yes—via third-party trucking billed hourly at $150 (2-hour minimum). Time calculated from loading point to delivery site and back to the loading point.
