Our Slate Gray Path Fines are a finely crushed decomposed granite-style material with a subtle blue-gray hue that compacts tightly to form a smooth, stable surface. Sourced from local quarries, this 1/4" minus blend includes fine particles and small angular rock fragments that lock together once moistened and compacted—creating a clean, contemporary look for pathways, patios, and landscape borders. This material provides excellent drainage while maintaining a firm, low-maintenance finish that resists erosion and weeds. Its rich gray tone complements modern, rustic, and natural landscape designs alike.

Frequently Asked Questions - Slate Gray Path-fines

Q: What size is Slate Gray Path Fines?
A: This material is ¼″ minus, meaning it contains particles up to ¼ inch in size blended with fines. The mix compacts tightly for a smooth, stable surface.

Q: Do I need to use a stabilizer?
A: Stabilizer is optional. For light-use paths and patios, water compaction alone is sufficient. For high-traffic or sloped areas, adding a DG stabilizer will improve binding and durability.

Q: How much material do I need?
A: Measure the total area (length × width × depth) and use our Material Volume Calculator to estimate your cubic yards or tons. As a quick guide: 1 cubic yard covers roughly 150 sq. ft. at 2″ deep.

Q: Can I install Slate Gray Path Fines over existing concrete or asphalt?
A: It’s best installed over a compacted base rock layer (like Class II Base Rock) for proper drainage and longevity. Avoid applying directly on solid surfaces.

Q: Does the color change when wet?
A: Yes — the gray deepens to a richer slate-blue tone when wet, adding visual contrast and depth to your landscape.
