Frequently Asked Questions

"How big is a cubic yard or a ton?"

A cubic yard of volume is 3'x3x3' = 27 cubic feet. A ton measures weight not volume, and depending on the material, a ton of gravel usually equals about ¾ of a cubic yard.

"How much area will a ton or a cubic yard cover?"

It depends on the material and depth, but on average, 1 cubic yard of gravel covers about 150 sq ft at 2 inches deep. A ton covers of gravel covers around 115 at 2 inches.

"How much does a ton or a cubic yard weigh?"

Weight varies by material. For example, 1 cubic yard of gravel or sand typically weighs 2,500 to 3,000 lbs (about 1.25 to 1.5 tons). Lighter materials like mulch weigh around 500–800 lbs per cubic yard.

"How many tons are in a cubic yard?"

It depends on the material. Heavy materials like gravel or sand usually have about 1.3 to 1.5 tons per cubic yard. Lighter materials like bark or mulch may be less than half a ton per yard.

"How do I figure how much material I need?"

Use our material calculator or measure your area’s length × width × depth. We’re happy to help you estimate—just give us your project details.

"Where do you dump the material?"

We dump in your driveway or a flat, safe & accessible area. Let us know ahead of time if you have a preferred spot—our driver will do their best to accommodate.

"What if I have too much or not enough material?"

If you have too much, you can spread it out for extra coverage or share it with neighbors. If you’re short, give us a call—we may be able to arrange a same-day or next-day delivery.

"Why does the material look different in person then website?"

Colors, textures or size can vary by load due to moisture, lighting, dust, source and natural variation. We do our best to show accurate photos, but materials look different mainly due to natural variation, lighting, device settings.

"How do I verify that the delivered amount is correct?"

Materials are loaded by certified scales and loader buckets at the quarries. (weights and measures state department.) The delivery ticket shows the loading time, quantity, and unit of measure.

"How's delivery calculated?"

Delivery is based on travel time, truck size, and load weight. We calculate the round-trip time from the material source to your location to determine cost. Delivery tickets list loading and delivery times for transparency.

"Why is gravel so expensive?"

Gravel mining involves heavy machinery, high fuel use, skilled labor, certified drivers & equipment operators. Add in strict regulations and long-distance trucking—these are the main cost drivers in the aggregate industry.

"Do you deliver to backyards?"

we only deliver to front driveways or safe accessible areas. Most trucks are too large to safely enter backyards or tight spaces.
